nine short years ago, my wife and I were renting a tightly cramped,
smelly, old, top floor apartment at a busy end of town. I remember not a
day going by when I didn't think of a way to escape that dead end box we
called home.
From there, we rented a duplex. Seems like an upgrade right? It was
in a desirable area, and had only one other neighbor to worry about. But
the problems soon became hard to ignore..

- No storage space
- Our landlord watched our every move from next
door
- Loud neighbors kept us up at all hours of the
evening

Never mind the worst part of all, watching every penny we worked so
hard to earn, slipping down the toilet (yet another plumbing problem

Sick to our stomach of being stuck in this rent trap, my wife and I
desperately wanted to buy a house of our own. We had great jobs, decent
income, a young family, and tons of dreams.
Renting meant someone else was in charge of our lifestyle. We wanted
to start with a simple home in a good area with a large fenced back
yard. We needed to be in the perfect school district for our young
children. It would be our first home. A “stepping stone” home for us.
